Seems like he his trying to reconnect with his estranged mother.

Good track. The backing music and Nate Ruess' chorus is great!

Fine. An interesting combination I must say. Also, Eminem must really hate his dad.

3.75*.

Cool, but personally I found the chorus to be a bit odd and out of place.

To be honest, I was surprised that Eminem wants to talk about his mum in this song and release it as a single since I thought the topic might be a bit too controversial. But I wrong.

Anyways, I felt the emotion in the lyrics and it just feels somehow the right thing to do for Eminem to really rap about that. Nate Reuss perfectly adds to the song and it's really great for Eminem to reference Nate in his verses.

The instrumental also adds to the atmosphere. It's slow, sad and the piano takes up the majority of the beat. I'm really pleased with this track.

The Nate chorus isn't as good as I was hoping it would be and I don't think Eminem has it in him to do anything I find appealing anymore. At least this one isn't too terrible.

Edit: Actually I heard this again the other day and it's actually really crap. The verses are shocking, Eminem sounds terrible and the lyrics are ridiculously bad. Nate can't save this.

The idea is nice and it works well, but Eminem is just way too shouty at times. 3.5

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but I don't like this one bit. I've never really loved Nate's voice, which really annoys me and the chorus seems like it was just copied and pasted into a random set of Eminem's rap verses. I get that Em is trying to bring across a message of appreciation to his mother, which is nice, but this isn't bearable and I rush to turn it off.

Thank goodness for Eminem, the only good rapper (well apart from Macklemore, Mac Miller, El-P, Vanilla Ice) and the only rapper who raps about real things, and doesn't just say ni**a over and over again. DAE Kangayfish & Lil Gayne???

But in all seriousness, this is a pretty strong cut from TMMLP2. It's interesting to see a direct callback to "Cleanin' Out My Closet", reflecting I suppose that Eminem is a less bitter man nowadays. Only thing about that is that it doesn't fit with the rest of the album since that track wasn't on TMMLP. Nate Ruess makes for a funny choice of guest vocalist too, mainly because he essentially shares his name with Eminem's brother who is mentioned in this song, which led me to briefly believing that Nate Ruess also had an estranged childhood! 3.8

I guess we are who we are"...
